Duality

Through reflection—both literal and symbolic—Duality invites viewers to see themselves in relation to others and to the shared space around them.
Duality presents two mirrored forms that appear distinct yet inseparable, encouraging viewers to consider the relationships between self and other, individual and community, movement and stillness.
The reflective surfaces capture the constantly changing environment of The Underline—sky, vegetation, infrastructure, and visitors—making the work an active participant in the life of the park. Each encounter is slightly different, shaped by time of day and the presence of people moving through the space.
Thomas’s work often asks audiences to reconsider familiar narratives and recognize interconnectedness. Installed along this civic corridor, Duality reinforces The Underline’s role as a place where diverse experiences meet, overlap, and ultimately belong to a shared public realm.
