Hide and Seek

Blending sculpture with play, Hide and Seek transforms public art into an experience of movement, curiosity, and discovery.
Hide and Seek encourages visitors to engage physically with the artwork, shifting the traditional role of sculpture from something to look at into something to move through. Its bold forms and unexpected openings create moments of surprise, framing views of the surrounding park and inviting exploration from multiple angles.
Mayer’s practice often examines how bodies navigate constructed environments, and here she creates a structure that rewards curiosity and interaction. The work becomes animated by the presence of people—children climbing, visitors pausing, and passersby encountering it differently each time.
Situated within The Underline’s active public landscape, Hide and Seek reinforces the idea that art can function as both cultural expression and shared social space, fostering connection through participation.
