Miami, FL - September 25, 2023 - Carmen Cartaya was recently appointed to The Underline Conservancy Board of Directors by the Friends of The Underline Board of Directors. In her new role, she will contribute to the board's mission of creating and maintaining a first-class 10-mile linear park, urban trail, and community destination, as well as providing free accessible health, wellness, culture, educational programming, and public art for the community.

Involved with The Underline since its inception, Cartaya played a pivotal role in the negotiation and creation of The Underline's Management Agreement with Miami-Dade County, granting the Conservancy the authority to manage, sustain, and curate The Underline.

An accomplished trial attorney specializing in complex commercial litigation and arbitration, Cartaya leads the Labor & Employment practice group at her firm. Her professional journey includes serving as a trial attorney for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Miami District Office, where she handled prominent cases, including successfully securing a $2.5 million settlement in a class discrimination lawsuit against the SLS Hotel South Beach.

Beyond her legal career, Cartaya is an active community leader. She heads Our Lady of Lourdes Academy's Alumnae Networking Sections and has conducted seminars for the Greater Miami Society for Human Resource Management. Her outstanding contributions to employment law earned her recognition as the "Most Effective Lawyer" by The Daily Business Review in 2018.

Meg Daly, Founder and CEO of The Underline, said, “Carmen Cartaya's appointment to The Underline Conservancy Board of Directors underscores her commitment to community and volunteerism and enhancing the quality of life in our community by supporting the development of this transformative urban space.”

Cartaya said, “I began working on The Underline when it was just a vision.  I am excited to see its continued success year after year and am honored to continue to work on a project that elevates Miami’s public spaces.”
