This exciting milestone recognizes the 5 miles of the 10-mile linear park passing through the City of Miami and spotlights the city’s contribution toward construction in this segment. Key highlights of this phase include the Hammock Playground and Plaza sponsored by Publix Super Markets Charities, the Vizcaya Station Plaza, and the innovative Rain Garden, which provides natural solutions to increase resilience to flooding.

Mayor Francis Suarez, alongside City of Miami Commissioners, will participate in the ribbon cutting event on June 27th at 12 PM. The ceremony will serve as an opportunity for City of Miami officials to present The Underline as a gift to the city, symbolizing their commitment to enhancing urban spaces and fostering community quality of life and well-being.

Following the ceremony, Mayor Suarez and the Commissioners will greet children visiting the Hammock Playground for the ALY Art Engagement field trip, where they will contribute to a mural designed by the renowned artists Allison Matherly and Jeffrey Noble, known as the duo "we are nice’n easy." The art piece is a captivating mural featuring collaged images of iconic South Florida fauna such as sea turtles, dolphins, and alligators, transformed into whimsical floats for pools, and is made possible by a generous grant from the Hearst Foundations.

The Hammock Trail offers a unique blend of recreational and educational experiences, promoting environmental sustainability and community engagement. The Rain Garden, in particular, stands as a testament to Miami's commitment to using natural solutions for stormwater management, enhancing the city's flooding resilience.

“We are honored to welcome our City of Miami partners helping to build Miami’s Underline urban park and trail with a shared passion for green spaces, multimodal transportation and programming and art serving and representing our diverse community,” says The Underline Founder Meg Daly.
