The Underline is honored to announce that Rina Gitlin, a curator and art historian from Mexico, has joined the team as the new Open Space Curatorial Manager. With over twenty-five years of experience in curating and developing exhibitions, events, and festivals in the United States and Mexico, Gitlin brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role.

Gitlin has made significant contributions to the art world. In recent years she has focused on curating exhibitions that highlight the work of local artists and raise awareness on critical social issues, including gender violence, migration, and the climate crisis. In addition to her curatorial work, Gitlin is the founder of RTcurated, a platform dedicated to promoting visual artists while supporting the work of various nonprofit organizations. Through RTcurated, Gitlin has successfully bridged the gap between art and social activism, making a lasting impact on the communities she serves.

Gitlin's academic background includes a Master of Liberal Arts in Museum Studies from Harvard Extension School and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. Her extensive experience and passion for socially engaged art make her an invaluable addition to The Underline team.

Gitlin has already made significant contributions to The Underline by successfully facilitating an open call to local artists funded by Hearst Foundations. She also brought art and play to children from underserved communities through the Learning Leadership Center and Big Brothers, Big Sisters. Gitlin provided children the opportunity to experience the transformative power of art by working on the “Hide & Seek” mural with local art duo, We are Nice’n Easy, at the Hammock Playground. Additionally, she played a key role in facilitating the installation of Jeppe Hein’s “Modified Social Bench” in the same location.

As Open Space Curatorial Manager, Gitlin will oversee and develop innovative art programs and public art installations across all ten miles of the project. Her vision and commitment to the transformative power of art will be instrumental in enhancing The Underline’s already robust art program. Through her contributions, the corridor will continue to reflect the diverse voices and stories of the Miami community.
