Meet Jose Gonzalez, who is working on The Underline’s Phase 2 construction with Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation & Public Works (DTPW). In the video above, Jose shares how long Phase 2 construction will take and what the steps will be.

Video Script: Hello, my name is Jose Gonzalez, and I work with Miami-Dade County on The Underline’s Phase 2 project. The Phase 2 project is from SW 19th Avenue to Coral Way. When done, you will have two trails on the project, one for bicycles and one for pedestrians. Along with 100,000 new plantings to include native plants and trees. Additionally, we're going to improve the crosswalks along The Underline, provide a new lighting system and create three new park areas along Phase 2. This will be accomplished in the next 2 years. First, we're going to start with the removal and the relocation of existing trees. Trees that are not healthy and are unsafe for the users will be removed. The next part is my favorite part, which is playing in the dirt, which we call technically earthwork. In that operation, we're going to install the drainage systems on the project to include undergrounding for the new lighting systems and waterlines. After that, we're going to commence the grading of the soil and soil remediation to get the final grade of the road and shortly after that we're going to create the trails. The new bicycle trails and the pedestrian trails along with creating the pavement for our amenity areas. The last part of our work is called the finishing touches. In which we're going to install our new furnishings, the playground equipment, and our signature pavement markings & signage and a whole lot of landscape. The landscape is going to support nature, the climate, and pollinators. 👏😃We can’t wait to see you at The Underline! 🌳🌴#TheUnderline #UnderlinePhase2
